Blood Cemetery Tour

"Odd things I've Seen," a blog out of Nashua, recently posted a video-tour of Blood Cemetery on YouTube. (See related blog entry here.)

PS: I just saw that he twittered that this video was mentioned on CNN.com. Very cool!

Nashua: Then & Now

While they don't (yet?) have a book about Hollis, Arcadia Publishing has some books about the history of towns in the region. I thought one in particular was quite interesting. Simply titled "Nashua", the book traces the history of our neighboring town. It has a series of "then and now" photos which are fun to peruse. Even better, their site offers a free google preview of the book.

"Rock for a Cause" Benefit Concert

SUPPORT! Jessica Zall spearheads this annual fundraiser at Pianos in the LES, NYC. It benefits Asha for Education, "a secular organization dedicated to change in India by focusing on basic education in the belief that it is the critical requisite for socio-economic change."

More from Jessica:
"Please join me as I partner with Network of Single Professionals (NESP) this year to bring you four fabulous bands rocking all night long for a great cause. As always, all proceeds raised from this night will directly benefit the cause: the funding of education in impoverished areas and needy schools in India. This means that $ for $ raised on March 28th (proceeds from ticket sales and raffle items) will go directly to school projects which Asha for Education has committed to fund in 2009.
For just a mere $15/person you can feast your ears on these following four wonders:
8:00pm - Come Together (Beatles & Rolling Stones cover tunes)
9:30pm - Dana Edelman / www.danaedelman.com (Americana folk rock)
10:30pm - Aderbat / www.aderbat.com (ethereal, intimate & smokey indie music)
11:30pm - Eighty East / www.eightyeast.com (a mix of Hindi/Urdu poetry put to melodic tones)
Pianos is located in the heart of the historic Lower East Side on Ludlow & Stanton. DOORS OPEN AT 7:30pm.
We hope to see you all there ... this plans to be another memorable evening!!!
Peace, love & happiness ~
Jessica & NESP"

Benson's: For Laughs

I recently came across the Benson's Animal Farm group on Facebook and, man, it brought back some good (and bad) memories. There's even a link to a Benson's website! I remember going there yearly when Sanders (my mom's employer) offered a family outing day. I remember going another time and a llama sneezed in my face. I have not liked this animal since.
Then I remembered popping the new Dane Cook DVD, Rough Around the Edges: Live from Madison Square Garden, in the player over a year ago and almost wetting my pants. Check some of the material out on YouTube and ENJOY!:

And let us know your favorite Benson's memories by commenting below!

Hollis Flea Market

It must be the 21st century: The Hollis Flea Market has a web site. I especially love the "Success Stories & Testimonials" part...
PS: Just noticed that Seth Tebbetts has a testimonial there!!

Hollis in the NY Times!

OK, so this is from back in November '07, but it's still exciting!

The Hollis was featured in the New York Times! The dump of all things, of course. Apparently, there was controversy surrounding the decision to limit the time people are allowed to hang out at the town dump. Makes us sound like we enjoy picking trash! I guess we can put a "green" spin on it, that we all like to recycle.
(Thanks to Zach Holmes for this!)

Candy Cane Greetings!

Since I don't post about myself too much...

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL FROM FLORIDA!

An interesting story goes with this photo: Mike and I were going for a walk on Clearwater Beach and happened to notice this sandcastle. It turns out a man was building this with the candy canes atop and was planning on bringing his girlfriend down to propose. He gladly snapped the photo for us. Later, on the return of our walk, we saw them celebrating with champagne. Congrats, anonymous couple!
